Handmade heritage style Italian Mattarello rolling pins.

This Mattarello is 1.02 Lbs, 15-1/2" long (13-1/2" rolling body), 2" diameter. A shorter Mattarello which is not overwhelming in the hand, the handle design is inspired by the shape of an acorn.

The pieces are inspired by Italian Mattarello rolling pins, a traditional Italian style rolling pin. Each piece is unique, individually handmade without the use of template or guides.

The wood is selectively harvested from our farms forest in order to promote the health of the forest and wildlife that calls it home!

Each piece is individually hand-turned on our wood lathe from hard maple, finished in food-safe natural raw linseed oil, and sealed in our farms own beeswax.

The Mattarello is the traditional Italian rolling pin used primarily for making fresh pasta by hand. While visually similar to what English speakers call a “French rolling pin,” the mattarello has its own distinct heritage, dimensions, and technique. Often found long and narrow with a solid wood form (no mechanical handle!) The design features a ergonomically designed single handle to fit the fingers and/or palm, and is famous for producing ultra thin even pastas and doughs with optimal control.

The single handle design is surprisingly ergonomic giving a natural controlled feel to dough rolling, it also allows for doughs to be easily wrapped around the pin for storage or transfer. The added weight of hardwood commands superb results in forming doughs.

We have played with the traditional proportions offering some thin and some wide, heavy pieces based on your varied preferences or needs. Each piece has varying diameter, length and weight. Please feel free to browse the individual pins to find the perfect addition to YOUR kitchen and chief.

To maintain and preserve the beauty of your pin, pieces should be washed in warm, not hot water. It is ideal to wipe them clean with a damp cloth rather than soak or submerge them in water. Pieces are recommended for indoor use and avoid "shock" environment/climate changes. - we offer handmade all natural - no petroleum based polishing wax which can be applied to restore the finish and provide a protective coating to your woodware ensuring many years of consistent use and enjoyment .
